Giving up and starting again...

About halfway through writing the novel Pandora's Secret, I stopped writing for about 6 months.

The 'muse' had left me. It wasn't writer's block, as such, just a feeling of blah. Does this matter? Who really cares? Is it worth it?

Normally, at this point, I would go on and write a section of the WIP that reflected my mood.

That didn't seem to work.

So I left it alone.

Then one day I picked up one of my daughter's old books; she's a bookworm, and it had writing that was frankly all over the place - that still made sense but kind of reflected what was happening in the story.

So I started messing around with a scene typographically to see if I could do something similar. It was a car crash section from the story.

In the end, I had to do it in Excel just to easily get the control I wanted. Adobe InDesign or Canva would have been easier, but I had Excel open so in it went.

The result is the pic above.

And it got me writing again.

So I turned it into a little canvas that I'm going to hang on my wall because, without it, I'm not sure where I'd be now.

'Andy vs the blah' is my working title for it 😂

Writers, how do you fight losing the muse or writer's block, if that's what you call it? I'd love to hear your strategies on one of the socials below.
